Bringing forth a life should be the most profound and exhilarating time in a woman’s life.  However, this highly primal period is often met with shame, depression, and burning regret, mainly as a result of a woman’s inability to satisfy the financial and emotional cost associated with child-rearing, especially after the abandonment of a financially liable partner.

This usually leaves said woman with the options of ‘sinking’ or ‘swimming’ and as we all know ‘sinking ain’t no viable option!’ So, how can a scared and unemployed mother weather a financial shit storm?

The options of enrolling in a government welfare program and filing for child support is definitely worth considering. However, that will get a mother so far when faced with mounting bills. In the event that a mother during this period is unlucky to land a job she could entertain utilizing her skills to generate some income, whether it be an online venture, selling craft items at local craft markets, and or engaging in a little backyard farming.

A mother could also consider the possibility of undertaking a few courses at a community college, and or free online courses in an attempt to improve her marketability and earning potential.

When all else fails, with pride and ego safely tucked away, a mother may create a ‘Go Fund Me’ page to offset a few financial obligations until she is able to obtain a job.

I completely agree with you that motherhood should indeed be a joy. Yes we live in the 21st century, and many should argue that women ought to be more responsible and plan their pregnancies…, but especially as women if we can, we ought to rally around these single mothers and give them all the support and love that we possibly can.

Great advice.
