We’re often instructed to follow in our parents’ footsteps, or fill roles that were predetermined for us. With careful steps, we follow our unspoken mandates, endeavoring at all costs to meet the prerequisites of a life dictated for us. We were also told to dream big and to aim for the stars in the pursuit of accomplishing our goals. However, though well-intentioned, there is often a lack of emphasis on finding our passion, harnessing our innate skills, and embarking upon a journey of self-discovery.
In today’s society, it has become quite evident that while traditional career paths still hold their merits, unprecedented careers such as App Developers and Social Media influencers have been on the rise. Additionally, jobs once thought to be less-prestigious are now marketed and monetized in such a way that they are now highly sought after, namely, hair styling, makeup artistry, and photography.
It is important to recognize that, in most instances, careers are for a lifetime. Therefore, we should take the time to discover our passion, develop our talents, invest heavily in ourselves, get involved in volunteering opportunities, and widen our horizons. This will ensure that whenever we decide to embark upon our careers, we are so inspired that each waking moment of our lives will be rewarding and fulfilling.
