Do you constantly wake up feeling frustrated, exhausted, and burdened? Are you plagued with an unfaltering longing for the introduction of a few more government sanctioned ‘public holidays’? As you wade through the dreary fog of wretched Monday mornings, do you curse the weekends for going by so ridiculously fast?

You are not alone!

Gallup World Poll’s riveting 2017 study revealed that a whopping 85% of the “one billion full- time workers” worldwide were grossly unengaged at work. Individuals often develop an acrimonious relationship with their place of employment as a result of feeling woefully unappreciated, autocratic and abusive superiors and nepotism fuelled promotions and ‘job perks’. Additionally, toxic co-workers, an inability to achieve professional growth, and being severely overwhelmed by tasks assigned are also cited as sour points for unhappy employees. Without a doubt the best cure for this awful, and at times, inhumane situation is for the swift submission of a letter of resignation. Followed by the pursuit of a rewarding and eternally fulfilling job.

However, with mounting financial obligations and growing competitiveness within the job market, cutting ties with one’s unpleasant job cannot be sensibly done on a whim and without a clearly configured ‘Plan B’.  This certainly does not mean that individuals that are facing the aforementioned situation should sit and wallow in self- pity, while earnestly hoping for the stars to align in their favors. It, however, calls for individuals to up the ante on their level of maturity and resourcefulness, while aggressively networking and covertly submitting job applications from their work station during ‘downtime’.
